Motivity began providing its abstinence education services to at risk youth within foster care, youth detention centers, schools and youth programs in Wayne County in 2004. Utilizing its curriculum, “Getting to Know Me and Then You”, Motivity aims to reduce the number of youth who would face the negative consequences of early sexual activity and other high risk behaviors. Faith Lutheran Church was the first to open its doors to us to provide our services as an after school program to the youth in the neighborhood.
In 2005, Motivity conducted its first abstinence conference, “Abstinence Can Be Done.” Youth and parents were in attendance to experience our first multi-media display of story-telling, compelling speakers, dramatic skits and more, all strategically delivered to inform about youth and the state of their sexual health. Motivity has gone on conducting its workshop and conferences annually and in 2012 began a partnership with St. John Health System, expanding our capacity to reach more students.
Soon thereafter, Motivity launched its campaign, “Giving Them a Reason to Wait” and conducted its first Reason to Wait Walk/Run (R2W) in 2012. Over 200 youth and parents were in attendance to support youth in their decision to choose abstinence.
In 2014, Motivity will conduct the Promise Weekend Over-Night Event and Ceremony. This event is will engender a stronger bond between parent and youth as they become better equipped to navigate the challenges youth face in this sex saturated culture.
