Motivity began providing its abstinence education services to at risk youth within foster care, youth detention centers, schools and youth programs in Wayne County in 2004. In 2005, Motivity conducted its first annual abstinence conference. Now a 501 (c)(3) organization, Motivity has serviced thousands of youth and parents in metropolitan Detroit with workshops such as How to Talk to Your Child About Abstinence and Getting to Know Me and Then You.
Both the annual abstinence conference and workshops use role play, video, music, spoken word/poetry, and film – all performed by youth – to illustrate how the choice to engage in early sexual activity contributes to teen pregnancy, HIV/STD’s, increased high school dropout rates, unemployment, and a host of other devastating factors affecting families, communities and the economy.
