Healthy vs. Toxic Relationships

October 31, 2011 by Motivity

WHAT RELATIONSHIPS MATTER MOST TO YOU? DATING, EDUCATIONAL, FAMILY, FRIENDSHIPS, OR BUSINESS RELATIONSHIPS?

Every relationship is significant and they are widespread throughout our lives. Our relationships are with family members, teachers, employers and even those of a romantic nature. Knowing the difference between those that are healthy and unhealthy can make the difference between a successful life and one that is riddled with drama and confusion.

Healthy relationships can be the spice of life, paving the way for fun and exhilarating experiences, promising employment opportunities or higher educational choices. But unhealthy or toxic relationships can spoil plans for a good life and chances for a great future. Being able to tell the difference between the two is crucial as a teen. Someone of little experience may approach new relationships with the hope of fun-filled, exciting experiences only to find that often individuals are not what they seemed to be.

HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KEEP MY BOYFRIEND IF HE WANTS TO HAVE SEX AND I KEEP TELLING HIM NO?

Motivity helps youth to understand that no one has to have sex to keep a relationship. If sex is the price of a relationship, then the other qualities you possess, those things that make you who you are, are NOT ENOUGH for the person who is putting on the pressure for sex. Love can exist even in the absence of sex.

Motivity wants to help youth to examine their future opportunities and weigh them against the common trends of popular culture. We intend to help youth, learn how to develop healthy relationships in every realm of their lives. We intend to help youth CHOOSE to set the stage for their successful futures

Motivity programming is designed to help youth:

  • Self-build
  • Identify which behaviors can enhance or destroy a relationship
  • Identify qualities that develop and define friendship and dating relationships
  • Explore community relationships and identify those that can serve as resources and become an asset to the world around us
